Facial wrinkles are divided into static and dynamic. Static wrinkles are the ones formed in the face while the skin is at resting state and dynamic wrinkles are formed with facial expressions.
What is botox?
Botox is a protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is known as type A botulinum toxin or botulinum toxin. In cosmetic dermatology, botox is used to eliminate facial wrinkles, and it is the most popular anti-aging treatment.
The Allergan Botox and Dysport Ipsen are the trademarks of botulinum toxin type A.
How does botox work?
By inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, botox blocks the transfer of nerve impulses to the muscles while it induces relaxation and reduces their mobility.
It reduces muscle contractions so that they become loose, cannot be acutely contracted and consequently cannot form any wrinkles.
If the static wrinkles have been formed, botox leads to their gradual smoothing and their in depth reduction.
Is the treatment painful? How long does the session last?
The process is simple, lasting a few minutes, almost painless and is based on the injection of small quantities of the diluted solution into the underlying muscle, responsible for wrinkling of the eyes, so as to cause its relaxation.
The patient can return to work the same day.
(slider When does the result become visible and how long does it last?}
Botox’s result is not immediate visible and it begins to appear after 3-7 days. In 15 days, we have the full effect of the medicine and at that point we review the result for a possible addition of a dose.
The duration ranges from 5-6 months depending on the case.
By the end of this period the muscles return to their original state.
Clinical studies have shown that after 3-4 treatments, the interval between two applications increases, since the facial movements which cause wrinkles are limited, because we forget them.
The most important thing is that as long as the result lasts, the wrinkle does not get worse over time, it remains at the same state and at the same time it prevents the creation of new wrinkles.
Whatinstructions should the patient follow?
- Sleeping, weight lifting and bending should beavoided for 6 hours
- Intense physical activity should be avoided as well as standing in areas with intense heat for the following 3 days
- Alcohol or aspirin consumption are prohibited until the next day
- The patient should not rub the injected areas
Will my botox treatment be visible to others?
When the botox treatment is performed by a specialist, there is not such a case.
Dr Tzouma is specialized in anti-aging facial treatments using BOTOX / DYSPORT at the Esthetic Skin Institute in New York.
She respects the patient's expectations and she aims to a completely natural and healthy result as well as for a face that does not lose its expressiveness. Icy, expressionless and completely immovable faces are wrong and should be avoided.
Necessary condition for a correct botox treatment is to obtain a full medical history, a facialphotograph and keeping the treated areas’ medical file , both during treatment and in the review.
The Allergan Botox and Dysport Ipsen are the trademarks of formal botulinum toxin type A and these are the ones to be used.
The result is magical!
